Retus Hedgepeth Zierke

Retus Hedgepeth Zierke, of Hot Springs Village, called the Hogs for the last time Sunday, July 13, 2014. She is survived by her loving husband, Chuck, her children, Steve Hedgepeth and Beverly Hedgepeth (Jim Vaden), her stepchildren, Bill Zierke (Mary) and Sue Zierke Johnson (Kevin), 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Ira Walker, and 2 nephews.

She came to the Village in 1976 from Memphis, TN where she worked as a typing instructor at Draughon’s Business College and later as an administrative assistant at Memphis School of Commerce. After moving to the Village, she obtained her real estate license and while working for Big Red Realty, she got her broker’s license. She and Marian Wilkerson opened Active Realty in 1980. After Marion retired, Retus continued working with her son, Steve, until closing the business in 2000.

She and Chuck enjoyed 29 years of marriage, in sickness and in health. Retus loved Razorback sports and was instrumental in starting the HSV Razorback Club. She and Chuck attended many games over the years, traveled the U.S. and Europe and made many good friends whom they always enjoyed entertaining when the opportunity presented itself. The last few years they have remained close to home due to health concerns but they still “traveled” through their wonderful memories.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30pm Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church (www.hsvsacredheart.com) or the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org). Arrangements have been entrusted to CedarVale Funeral Home.
